Inspired by the ideals of Swami Vevekananda, Vivekananda Sporting Club was established in 1958 and since then has been working as one of the most popular and most dependable socio-cultural organizations in the region. Situated on Mahatma Gandhi road, the members of this club have dedicated themselves to secure a healthy atmosphere and a clean upbringing to every child in this locality.

Over the passage of time this organization has emerged as the best institution in terms of social, cultural, Educational and sporting activities in huge areas around it. In 2008, we are going to celebrate our 43rd Durga Puja Festival on behalf of the local people. This festival also earned fame and succeeded to present a unique style of its own to thousands of spectators who visit the Puja Pandal every year.

Apart from our club being an abode of assembly for thousands of people during the days of festival like the Durga Puja, the club premises remains busy with various social development, cultural and sporting activities during the whole year. Our club is the first organization in the locality to organize an “Eye Donation Camp”, a member of our club travelled from Kolkata to Delhi on a’ bi-cycle to generate consciousness for eye donation. More than a hundred women and men donate blood every year in the “Blood Donation Camp”, organized by the club.

In addition to the conventional sports and games like football, cricket and athletics, a coaching centre for “Kick-boxing” and “Kung-fu” was introduced in the nineties of the last century for physical and mental development of our youngsters and it is functioning gloriously, producing a number of champions already.

The “Annual Cultural Funtion” of the club begins with a “Mashal Daur”, a great procession from the statue of Swami Vivekananda at “Gol Park”, where the torches, held by the members of the club are ignited by the Secretary Maharaj of Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture every year and they run with the. flames up to the club premises. A month-long series of Programmes like the Annual Sports, Netaji Jayanti, The Republic Day, Sit & Draw, Intra-Club football tournament etc. and finally a Musical Programme followed, where apart from the members of the club hundreds of women, men and specially children of the locality participate.

As a part of our social responsibility, the club extends its hand in activities like distribution of books to needy students, financial help for treatment of people in distress, accompanying patients to hospital etc, We also organize free “Health Checkup” and free “Eye check-up” camps. We are actively trying to establish a regular free “Treatment Centre” and a free “Reading-room”, where dailies and periodicalS will be available, in the club Premises.we mostly andcordially invite everybody around us to participata

and to co-operate in all the activities organized by the club.
